A seaside resort and fishing port at the north-eastern tip of Normandy, Le Tréport is easy to explore on foot from the cottage. Here are eight ideas for a first stay.

1. Stroll around the harbour and quays

The harbour is the lively heart of the town: fishing boats, a basin, and quays lined with restaurants and shops. It is an excellent place to start soaking up the local atmosphere.

2. Take in the view from the cliffs

From the heights above the town, the view takes in the town, the harbour and the sea. Depending on the season, a funicular lets you go up without effort: remember to check the opening times before you go.

3. Walk along the shingle beach and esplanade

The long shingle beach and its esplanade invite a stroll in every season. A walk along the water, in clear weather or in a strong wind, is part of the charm of the place.

4. Taste the fruits of the sea

Fish, shellfish, crustaceans: freshness is the rule here. Find out the opening times of the fishmongers and the harbour stalls, then cook at the cottage with the plancha or the barbecue.

5. Pop over to Mers-les-Bains

Right next to Le Tréport, Mers-les-Bains charms visitors with its seafront and its Belle Époque villas. There is an article about it in the news section.

6. Hike the Alabaster Coast

The cliffs and coastal paths offer spectacular scenery. Bring good shoes and a windproof jacket, and always keep well back from the cliff edge.

7. Head up to Eu

A few minutes away by car, the town of Eu has its château, its collegiate church and its historic lanes.

8. Go and meet the seals

In half a day, the Somme Bay lets you watch seals in their natural habitat. Read our tips in the dedicated article.

Good to know: opening times, entry fees and seasons change from year to year. Check them with the tourist offices before you set off.
